Being a mentor positively impacts academics and social and economic prospects because it provides accountability and responsibility and lays a blueprint for future planning. Statistics have shown that youth that meets regularly with mentors are 52% less likely than peers to skip a day in school and 37% less likely to miss a class. Youth who face opportunity gaps but have a mentor are 55% likely to enroll in college and 46% less likely to start using illegal drugs.

Our Mentorship Program focuses on these areas to keep our youth engaged in building leadership skills and setting goals to be successful. We offer the following but are not limited to:

  • Leadership Development: Leadership Development nurtures the individual's skills and capabilities to become an effective leader. We will teach life skills, how to build self-confidence, how to empower others, and how to have practical communication skills.

  • Goal Setting: Our team will assist the youth in setting short-term and long-term goals to start the blueprint for their future. We shall teach the youth how to achieve career and personal goals and focus on setting measurable goals and how to accomplish them effectively.

  • Character Building: Building character is essential as a youth because it can dictate how your skills reflect as an adult. We will work on team-building skills that show respect, responsibility, effective communication, and problem-solving. We shall have workshops and seminars to convey this message to our young people and teach them how to gain the characteristics and soft skills necessary to perform well in their careers.

  • Conflict Resolution: We shall teach young people problem-solving skills and conflict resolution that they can use throughout their lives. We shall work on ways to handle conflict without aggressive behaviors or outbursts. Our youth will have scenarios and role plays to encourage them to solve problems, discuss how the impact affects them, and discuss the benefits of effectively resolving conflict. Our teams shall also discuss boundaries and personal space to know when it is violated or misused. We shall have group talks about social issues impacting their society to teach them how to navigate the problems appropriately.

  • Motivational Speaking: You Win We Win will have motivational speakers to talk with the youth. The speakers will empower the youth through life experiences and provide tools for being productive citizens in their communities.

Literacy goes beyond the ability to read a book or write a letter to a friend; literacy is an essential component of an individual's cognitive and intellectual development. Data has indicated that 21% of adults in the U.S. will be illiterate in 2022, and 54% of adults have literacy below 6th grade. Twenty-five million children in the U.S. cannot read proficiently (based on an analysis of NAEP test scores). Data has indicated that 34% of students are below the basic reading level in fourth grade, 27% of eighth grader students are below the basic reading level, and 39% are below the proficient reading level (National Center for Education Statistics 2021). According to preliteracy, one in six high school students, or about 1.2 million teens, drop out each year.

  • Teaching Writing Skills: Writing gives individuals a voice and provides communication skills needed through adulthood. As young readers explore their writing talents, we aim to help them become young authors. Our team will teach writing skills and model the writing process of putting ideas together. We will teach how to take a passionate topic and explore what makes the piece enjoyable to other readers. We will show them how to revise or edit drafts, proofread, and tell a story that will capture the audience of readers.

  • How To Publish A Book: We will teach and educate on the difference between self-publishing and traditional publishing. We will discuss the advantages and disadvantages of the two different publishing. We will train on the benefits of retail with Amazon and Barnes and Noble versus having the book in a store or library. We will also break down the finances required to publish and how to market your book as a brand.

  • App Development: Developing an app starts with an idea of a problem you want to solve. Discovering the Idea:  In our workshop, we will educate individuals on researching the idea to see if an app is already created to solve that issue and how the individual will make it unique for consumers. Financial Investment: We will discuss the financial investment needed, whether it is from a grant, investor, or personal loan. Deployment Stage: We will focus on what it entails to have it on an app store and website and incur maintenance fees. Monetize Phase: Our team will focus on how the app can be financially beneficial
